Burkina Faso

A CMCS team deployed to Burkina Faso from 29 November to 9 December 2017 to assess the current UN-CMCoord environment in the Sahel region. The team met with security forces (Burkina Faso Armed Forces, police and gendarmerie), humanitarian actors working in the area and local communities. The humanitarian operating environment has become increasingly difficult due to the insecurity in the area. Ways to improve civil-military coordination were identified by humanitarian, police and military actors during a three-day workshop in Ouagadougou. Discussions also focused on alternatives to armed escorts for humanitarian actors to operate in the current context.
