UN-CMCoord Mechanisms and Support in CAR

UN-CMCOORD support to humanitarian partners has been constant in CAR since 2013.

A CMCS team member deployed to CAR as UN-CMCoord Officer from 3 March to 11 April 2017, upon request of the OCHA Country Office. The mission focused mainly on the revision and implementation of UN-CMCoord structures and mechanisms in Bangui and in field locations, to further improve civil-military coordination and preserve and promote humanitarian principles.

As of 2020, UN-CMCOORD cells, co-chaired by OCHA and MINUSCA, are active in Bangui, Bambari, Bangassou, Obo, Bria, Birao, Kaga-Bandoro, Bossangoa, Paoua and Bocaranga. They gather key international NGOs, Red Cross Movement, UN Agencies, MINUSCA military, police and civilian components as well as UNDSS, EUTM and French DETAO on a weekly or bi-monthly basis.

Country specific guidelines for civil-military coordination between MINUSCA and humanitarian partners, endorsed in 2017, offer a solid reference framework for a smooth cooperation while preserving humanitarian principles and space.
